Scope and Contents

The papers include fourteenth-century fragments of St Thomas Aquinas's ‘Summa Theologica’ (folio 1), a fragment of a roll of a [? manor] court held at Heydon, 1515 (folio 6), a letter, 1677, of Thomas Osborne, Earl of Danby (folio 9), a plan, 1810, for alterations to the Cathcart road, near Glasgow (folio 34), and some political verses (folios 11, 85). Some of the papers appear to be connected with the Maxwells of Pollok.

Scope and Contents

The miscellaneous papers include a manuscript copy, early 18th century of "The History and Genealogie of the famous Ancient and Truely Noble House of Seton" by Sir Richard Maitland of Lethington, with the continuation by Alexander Seton, Viscount Kingston (folio 45). There are a number of undated literary and historical pieces and poetry in English, French, and Dutch in James Seton's hand, and also some genealogical notes and medical recipes of the late 18th century.
