Custodial History
The papers were formerly in the possession of Major-General Sir Walter Maxwell Scott, Baronet, Companion of the Order of the Bath, Distinguished Service Order, at Abbotsford. They were bought by the National Library of Scotland with the aid of the Reid Fund.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Bought, 1934 (except MS.1549, folios 158-159, 161-182, 185-226; MS.1550, folios 164-189; and MS.1551, folios 163-176, 181-194, 201-202; bought, 1935), from Sir Walter Maxwell Scott, Baronet, who remitted a part of the purchase price. He also presented several documents, which are indicated under the relevant description.
