Arrangement
Most of this material was bound by the 1st Earl of Minto, and this has dictated an artificial arrangement into (a) correspondence and papers of the 1st Earl, 1806, chiefly as President of the Board of Control (MSS.11272-11282), and (b) correspondence and papers of the 1st Earl, 1806-1814, chiefly as Governor-General of India (MSS.11283-11739). The latter is sub-divided as general correspondence and papers (MSS.11283-11336), correspondence with the Directors of the East India Company (MSS.11337-11360), personal correspondence and papers (MSS.11361-11365), proceedings of the Governor-General in Council (MSS.11366-11570), Persian correspondence (MSS.11571-11595), miscellaneous papers of the Bengal Government (MSS.11596-11638), correspondence with and papers concerning the Presidencies of Bombay and Madras, and other territories east of the Cape (MSS.11639-11711), and miscellaneous correspondence and papers, including material concerning Bencoolen, Goa, Iran, Sind, Indonesia, Afghanistan and Tahiti, various surveys, and literary and scientific subjects (MSS.11712-11739).
