Scope and Contents These are the final two volumes of David Hume's 'History'. Hume signed the contract for it with Andrew Millar on 27 July 1759; the remainder of that year was taken up with research; he began writing in February 1760 and completed the twenty chapters in April 1761 (dates are given at the beginning of most chapters); the book was published in November of that year, with the imprint date 1762. Scope and Contents

Additional paragraphs added to the text in this manuscript would appear to have been incorporated in the first edition, and there appear to have been only minor changes, chiefly in vocabulary, added at the proof stage. The manuscript shows throughout a fair degree of amendment, largely changes of vocabulary or excisions for greater brevity.

Scope and Contents Following the death of Lord Byron in April 1824, various interested parties met at the house of John Murray on 17th May of that year. These included John Murray [II], Thomas Moore, John Cam Hobhouse and representatives of both Lady Byron and Augusta Leigh. After a discussion, the group decided that the manuscript containing the memoirs of Lord Byron should be burned and they proceeded to do so in the drawing room fireplace. Scope and Contents This volume contains the manuscript of John Cam Hobhouse, Baron Broughton, relating the events of the separation of Lord and Lady Byron. Hobhouse was the confidant of Lord Byron and often acted on his behalf during the first few months of 1816, when the separation was being negotiated. There are a number of lacunae, corresponding to the following pages of the first edition: pages 49- 66 (after folio l37), 158-163 (after folio 410), 175-194 (after folio 436), 232-237 (after folio 554), 247-263 (after folio 578), 332-339 (after folio 751).

There are occasional corrections and deletions to the manuscript by Cavalié Mercer’s son, also Cavalié Mercer, who edited the work for publication.

Illustrating the text of the manuscript are twenty-two full-page and other smaller drawings, apparently by the author. These illustrations and drawings are not found in the printed edition.

Scope and Contents Macquéreau, or Macquériau, a historian from Valenciennes, wrote a `Traicté et recueil de la maison de Bourgogne` covering the period 1500-1529 which was published in two parts under the title ‘Histoire générale de l`Europe’. The manuscript covers the period 1464-1506. Macquéreau’s manuscript for 1500-1527 is now in Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale n.a. fr. 10433.The manuscript is in two parts, each of which is preceded by a list of contents (folios ii verso, 95).
