Papers relating to the silver mines of Alva., 18th century.
The papers contain a description of the mine in the hand of Sir John Erskine (folio 1), instructions given by him to Dr Justice Brandshagen for prospecting and mining the silver, and several papers on the legal position of the mine. There is a list of shareholders (folio 36) of the company formed to mine the silver, and a copy of an article on the mine by the Reverend Robert Paul (folios 16-18), published in the 'Alloa Advertiser'”, 20 March 1880.

Papers, some of which are concerned with Dumbarton Castle, including orders for provisioning and receipts for cattle taken from local people by the garrison., 1651-1654.
There is also a receipt from the Roundheads for a prisoner from the Castle, with a promise to exchange him for one of equal quality. The papers also refer to the Honorable Sir Charles Erskine`s attempts to borrow money, particularly from Lady Elizabeth Campbell, widow of Sir Duncan, 1st Baronet, of Glenorchy.
