Papers relating to lawsuits and copies of correspondence., 1752-1802.
Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows.
(i) Papers relating to lawsuits of David Nairn of Drumkilbo against James Mercer of Aldie, 1752-1756 (folio 3) and of Alexander Nairn of Drumkilbo, David's son, against Colonel William Mercer of Aldie, brother of James, 1783-1788 (folio 32). An inventory of the latter process, 1788, enumerating many of the papers in both, has been placed at folio 1.
These papers are perhaps connected with the legal affairs of Baroness Nairne (Flahaut de la Billarderie), Colonel William Mercer's grand-daughter, in which Lord Murray took an interest in 1855 (see MS.2904, folios 163-171).
(ii) Copies of correspondence regarding a pension given by the Nawab of the Carnatic to Amelia, Lady Campbell, 1789-1802. (Folio 143.).
