Robert McLellan was President of the Association from 1962 to 1964; most of the letters date from this period and are from the Secretary of the Association, John S Campbell. They concern a variety of topics such as rural transport and local government reform, as well as arrangements for meetings, etc. They also include drafts of McLellan's speeches to the Association.

Scope and Contents

Robert McLellan served as Chairman of the Scottish Subcommittee of the League of Dramatists from 1952 to 1961, and as President of the Scottish branch of the Society of Authors from 1961 to 1965. The correspondence is mostly with the London headquarters of these bodies, and with their Scottish secretaries, Alec Robertson, Donald Mackenzie and Lavinia Derwent. It concerns meetings and constitutional difficulties, and the possible formation of a separate Scottish Society of Authors in 1962.
