Scope and Contents

The notebook is lacking a few leaves.

The notebook contains names of ironmongers and coal-suppliers, apparently in continuation of MS 20577(i). It was later used for studies in Arabic, including a glossary, written probably whilst J B S Haldane was serving in Mesopotamia; and afterwards for mathematical calculations. A poem on the experiences of Haldane in Mesopotamia is written at folio 40.

Scope and Contents

The notes were subsequently used for the preface and chapters I-III of an unidentified and apparently unpublished book on the application of mathematical genetics to the study of populations (folio 46).

Possibly the beginning of an earlier version of the work of which MSS.20612-20616: Notebooks of J B S Haldane containing part of a projected and apparently unpublished work entitled ‘The genetical theory of populations’ form part.

Scope and Contents The notebook contains the text of a work entitled 'Heredity' (folio i), possibly an article for an encyclopaedia (cf folios 29, 40-41); at folio 77 is a draft bibliography (repeated and completed at folio 45). Some of the otherwise blank leaves have been used for a work entitled 'Selection (mathematical theory)' (folio 50) and 'Some reflexions (sic) on materialism' (folio 53).Some of the leaves (folio 46-49 recto, 64, 66-75) remain blank.'Heredity' is undated, the...
