The notebook contains 39 poems in Gaelic (14), English (14) and Scots (11). These include two further poems on ‘Mochtar is Dubhghall’ (folios 15 recto, 38 verso), and English verse translation of An Ciaran Mabach’s “Nollaig bu ghnàthach air fìon” (folio 25 verso) and English prose translations (published) of two of the poet’s own works (folio 43 verso). Folios 27 verso-37 recto, 38 recto blank.
Notebook containing originally two sets of extracts: 'Elegantiae Simulae Inusitatae scribendi formulae, Romanis Authoribus tam Historicis quam Poeticis Diligenter Excerptae', and 'Sententiae Celebriores tam Ethicorum quam Christianorum ex variis autoribus Descriptae’., 18th century.
The 'Elegantiae Simulae Inusitatae...' begins on folio 4, and the 'Sententiae Celebriores...’ begins on folio 24. The same hand has added extracts from Gellius and Ennius and notes on Roman measures and money on folios 1-3, and calculations on folios 11-17. The name William Paterson and the dates 1704 and 1707 appear on front and back covers. There are some notes in Lord Milton's hand on folios 17-18. Leaves have been torn out at various points.
