The reference `Inv.` is to the number in the Inventory by William Rose`s son Patrick, who arranged and catalogued the papers in 1819 (Adv.MS.49.7.7); `Mac.` to the page of `Notes of Miscellaneous Manuscripts belonging to the Library of the Faculty of Advocates` by the Reverend Walter Macleod (1896) in the Department of Manuscripts (F.R.211), in which some of the papers are described more fully than here.
Custodial History
The collection was bought by the Advocates’ Library in 1819.
