Scope and Contents

The manuscript describes the history of the region from 1530 to 1629 in a chronological narrative. The portion from 1553 to 1572 is missing or was never written, and the narrative for the period after 1603 is broken and fragmentary. There is a rewritten portion for the year 1552 (folio 99a).

The manuscript comprises the greater part of `Waverley`. Of the parts not included in the manuscript some exist as fragments in the Library`s manuscript collection, fifteen folios are in the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York, and others are missing.

The first fifty folios of the manuscript are on quarto paper, watermarked 1805, the rest on folio paper, watermarked 1813.

Scope and Contents

At the end are copies of an instrument of sasine following on a charter of Queen Mary to William Livingstone of Kilsyth, 1564 (folio 66), and of papers relating to Susanna Bruce and Barbara Livingstone, sister-in-law and daughter of William Livingstone of Easter Greenyards, 1629 (folios 67-67 verso), besides another fragmentary legal note, 1629 (folio 68 verso).

Dates: Late 16th century-early 17th century.

Scope and Contents Mylne`s pagination and the size of paper show that the volume is composed of seven separate parts: section (i), section (ii), section (iii), sections (iv) and (v), section (vi), sections (vii)-(xiii), section (xiv). None are exactly dated, but (v) must be later than 1705, (xiv) later than 1700; and probably all were compiled in the early 18th century.The contents are as follows:(i) `Ane Alphabeticall Index [A-C only] To the Book of Collections of Notes of Charters...
