Scope and Contents
The collection consists of printed books, 1718-1850 (Adv.MSS.25.8.1-25.8.42), and manuscripts, 1511-1857 (Adv.MSS.25.9.1-25.9.23), owned by Riddell, correspondence and papers (many incomplete) ?1799-1860, and undated, relating to peerages (Adv.MSS.26.1.1-26.1.29), to baronetcies, to landed families and to various related topics (Adv.MSS.26.2.1-26.2.23), and a large number of notebooks, circa 1805-1852, containing excerpts from the public records of Scotland, and other matter (Adv.MSS.26.3.1-26.7.37).
