The author was probably the same Thomas Murray whose ‘Naupactiados’ was published in 1604. The manuscript contains two verse dedications to James VI, composed before 1603 (folios 2-6), and, following the Lamentations, a version of Psalm 1 (folio 32 verso).

Dates: Late 16th century.

Manuscript of ‘Leycester`s Commonwealth’, an attack on the Earl of Leicester, here given the title: `The coppie of a l[etter] written by a M[?] of Artes Cambr[idge] to his freind in London concerning some talke past of late … about the presente State and some proceedings of the Earle of Leycester and his freindes in Englande`.

Scope and Contents The author was probably Sir Charles Arundell (see Leo Hicks in ‘Studies’ xlvi, pages 99-103), but the work has also been attributed to Robert Persons and Thomas Morgan. It is followed here by `A godly and Proffitable Meditacion of the 20th chapter of Job` (folio 71 verso).The manuscript has been badly damaged and most of folios 46-57 is missing. The names John Corsonne, Richard Corsonne and Thomas Miles occur in the margins, and a note on the titlepage reads `John corsonne write...
