John Ramsay, who became Colonel of the 2nd Regiment of Foot, married James Skene's oldest sister, Margaret.

The contents are as follows: (i) Correspondence, 1791-1801, on legal and financial matters (folios 1); (ii) Accounts, 1789-1802, chiefly personal but include some military expenses and payments for work on Ramsay's property of Invernettie Lodge (folio 111).
