Scope and Contents These papers form the main archive of the Campbells of Craignish, as preserved by the late Robert R Campbell of the Board of Education, the head of a senior cadet branch of the family. They consist almost entirely of formal estate records, financial papers, rentals, and accounts, and give in general a good view of the running of a highland estate in the late 17th and 18th centuries. Particulalry interesting in this context are the account books of Donald Campbell of Barrichbean....

Papers of the Douglas family of Springwood Park chiefly concerning the purchase of Bridgend and Longnewton estates., 1742-1859.

Scope and Contents

Bridgend (afterwards Springwood Park) was bought by Sir James Douglas in 1750, and Longnewton in 1765. Some of these papers relate to a dispute with Sir William Scott of Ancrum over the teinds of Longnewton.

The papers are connected with the lawsuit for the Roxburghe estates, which took place after the death of the 4th Duke of Roxburghe in 1805.

Scope and Contents The papers cover the period from 1750 to 1945, but the bulk of the collection belongs to the lifetime of Sir George Henry Scott-Douglas, 4th Baronet, who succeeded his father as a minor in 1836 and died in 1885. During his minority and absences abroad with the army, his affairs were in the hands of a trustee, but after his return in 1851, Sir George took a keen interest in the running of his estates, as is evident from the long series of detailed factory accounts and correspondence....
