Papers concerning William Campbell of Stobs; his lands of Stobs and his wife's of Harvieston were mortgaged to Lord Milton., 1722-1765, undated.
Papers connected with Sir Walter Scott’s financial affairs and death., 1830-1832.
Papers dealing with the financial transactions of the Honorable Sir Charles, Mary Hope, his wife, and Marie Stewart, the Dowager Countess of Mar., 1641-1650.
There are also several papers relating to Sir Robert Crighton or Murray, of Glenmuir and Castle Murray, a relative of the Earl of Dumfries. The later documents reflect the progress of the Civil War, with Sir Charles`s appointment as Governor of Dumbarton Castle. Ch.4122 is a bond by the Scottish Parliament to the Earl of Annandale, to raise money for the war. There are also in this group papers relating to Sir Arthur Erskine of Scotscraig, brother of Sir Charles.
Papers from Nisbet House, Berwickshire.
The Nisbet papers fall into four groups, belonging respectively to the Nisbets of that Ilk, the original owners of the estate; the Kers (later Carres) of Cavers and West Nisbet; who acquired the estate in 1649; the Chisholmes of that Ilk, connected by marriage to Charles St Clair, 15th Lord Sinclair, who succeeded to the estate some time before 1813; and William Molleson, probably related to the sister of Charles St Clair, de jure 13th Lord Sinclair.

On Lady Elizabeth Camphell`s death her bonds were inherited by James, Patrick, and Elizabeth Campbell, children of Patrick Campbell of Edinample. The object of the transactions was to give the Campbells further security for their money, and to obtain for the Erskines a longer term of repayment. Other papers concern the Crichtons of Castlemains and St Leonards, relatives of the Earl of Dumfries.

The papers comprise a scrapbook containing statements of bank accounts and miscellaneous financial records, 1944-1946, concerning his service during WWII; two photographic albums, 1949, of a student debating tour in India with some news cuttings and other papers explaining the purpose of the visit; an auto-biography of Stanley Jenkins, one of McLellan’s fellow students during his Indian journey; Alexander McLellan`s curriculum vitae and obituary.

The contents are as follows.
(i) Papers, 1748-1763, of and concerning Alexander Hamilton (folio 1). They relate mostly to finance, personal and official (Lord Milton was his creditor), but also to some proposed changes in postal services.
(ii) Papers, 1725-1759, undated, concerning the Hepburns of Humbie, relating chiefly to a dispute between the elder and younger lairds, in which Lord Milton was arbitrator, and the entail of the estate.

Papers of James Seton's son, George, who served with the private shipping firm of Forbes and Company, Bombay, and was appointed commander of the vessel 'Lowgee Family'. By 1825 he had returned to Scotland and married Isabella Bruce, niece of James Laing of Streatham (for her correspondence see MS.19222). He purchased the property of Potterhill in Perth in 1823 and died in 1842.

A younger brother of George, 7th Baronet of Cariston, James Seton followed a military career until he sold his commission in 1774. On the death of the 7th Baronet in 1762, he became tutor to his nephew, George, 8th Baronet, and after returning from the army, resided at Cariston for some time. James Seton died at Markinch in 1817.
