The manuscript includes (pages 73 and 337) extracts from a history of Gujarat by Ali Mahommed Khan, Diwan of Ahmedabad, in a translation by S A Greenwood (see MS.13916 and the ‘Catalogue of the Persian manuscripts in the British Museum’, volume 1, pages 288-289).
The volume also contains (page 173) extracts from the life of Sultan Ghiass ul dein Khilchee, Emperor of Malwa, in the Tubruckat Ackberi, see MS.13915, and (page 193) a memoir of the life of Jaswant Rao Holkar.
Humorous stories and anecdotes, largely Scottish, with occasional extracts from contemporary books, reviews, and newspapers, all 18th century.
Internal dates in the manuscript are from 1740-1762. Newspaper-cuttings, pasted on the boards and binding pages, are dated 1779-1780.

The book contains on blank leaves bound in at the back a memorandum (folio 3) and sketches (folios 8 verso, 11 verso, 12 verso) in pencil apparently in Charles Macleod’s hand, and, in another hand in ink, written also on the flyleaves, biographical notes and extracts from printed sources referring to him.

The contents are as follows: (i) An abridgement of the General Council; (ii) A brief account of the Holy Land with a short description of the government of the Jews etc.; (iii) Notes on Scotch Bishops after the Reformation, down to about 1700; (iv) ‘Excerpta quædam de magus registro prioratus St. Andreæ’, referring to the register by its folios, a copy from Sir R Sibbald’s excerpts by “Iain Semple”; (v) A brief account of the heresies in the primitive church, etc.
