Scope Note: Documents relating to the management of all aspects of a landed estate, which is to be considered property of notable extent which may include, as general examples, any of the following: dwellings; outbuildings; grounds; pasturage; arable land; woodland; water courses. For papers concerning the administration of personal estates, in the narrow legal sense, on death see 'Estate inventories', 'Probate records'' and 'Probate accounts'.

Scope and Contents

Bruce Allan Bremner trained as a doctor in Aberdeen and at Edinburgh University, and in 1841 went to practice in Bombay.

In 1852 he married Isabella, daughter of George Seton, commander of the ‘Lowgee Family’. They returned to live in Edinburgh in 1855 and purchased Streatham House in Canaan Lane in 1865. Dr Bremner died in 1890.

Additional estate papers of the Dundases of Dundas consisting mostly of correspondence, legal processes, and miscellaneous management papers, 1741-1890. Scope and Contents The estate of Aberlady (including Butterdean in Oldhamstocks) in East Lothian belonged to Douglas of Kilspindie and to Hay of Aberlady. It was purchased in 1668 by Sir Andrew Fletcher, younger brother of Sir Robert of Saltoun. He died in 1675 and was succeeded by his sons Archibald (died 1685) and John (died 1687) and the latter's son Andrew; among their tutors and curators were Andrew and Henry Fletcher of Saltoun. Scope and Contents

To about 1750 the properties concerned are in or off the High Street, rented as town accommodation by Lord Innerpeffer, Sir Robert Fletcher and his widow, and Lord Milton. After that date most of the papers deal with Milton House and associated land in the Canongate; those of the nineteenth century largely concern the leasing and feuing of that land (on this there is more material in the Saltoun factors' correspondence, MSS.17282-17344, and in MS.16801.

Scope and Contents The Fletchers were merchants in Dundee, who came to prominence towards the end of the sixteenth century in the person of Robert, burgess and bailie of Dundee, who purchased various lands in Forfar which were consolidated into the estate of Innerpeffer; he died in 1622.
