Series of volumes of John Riddell containing notes, copies and extracts of letters and some copies of session papers in cases involving claims to various Scottish titles, and other genealogical matters., 1830-1852.
The volumes are more or less consecutive, but there is some overlapping, some the volumes having been begun for other purposes

Small number of letters (mainly copies) and some legal papers concerning claims to certain privileges of the Earls of Angus by Archibald J E Douglas, Baron Douglas of Douglas (created 1790), as representative of the family, against the claims of Archibald Hamilton, 9th Duke of Hamilton., 1820-1821, 1824, and undated.
Three printed papers in the claim to the Earldom of Crawford by John Lindsay Crawford., 1812, 1819, ?1822.
Volume containing 9 printed papers in claims to the Earldom of Sutherland., 1769-1770, and undated.
A few brief notes and some unimportant marks have been written in the margins in different hands. A contents list has been written on the flyleaf in an apparently contemporary hand.
Volume containing: (i) memoranda apparently by John Riddell relating to the descent of Lord Napier from Duncan, Earl of Lennox, and to the Haldane and Lennox competition in the 15th century, ?circa 1809; (ii) a copy of ‘The Case of Alexander, Duke of Hamilton and Brandon’ (no place of publication, no date), with a few marginalia by Riddell; and (iii) a copy of ‘Case and statement of evidence on the claim of Archibald Lord Douglas of Douglas to carry the Crown of Scotland’ (London, circa 1822)., Circa 1809, circa 1822, and undated.
