Memoir of Victor Amyot, with correspondence of the 1st Earl of Minto with Victor and Alexandre Amyot and others., 1794-1807.
Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows. (i) Victor Amyot, ‘Exposé de ma conduite pendant la Revolution’, dated Portoferraio, 15 April 1794 (folio l). Amyot had been commissaire de la marine at Brest, whence he arrived at Paris in April 1792. The memoir gives an account of his experiences in Paris, his journey to Provence, and his flight from Toulon on its capture by Republican forces. Amyot was subsequently employed by the 1st Earl in Corsica, and he then went to London on the evacuation of the island in 1796. The biography of Amyot in the ‘Dictionnaire de la Biographie Française’ (Paris, 1936-), volume i, page 761, has no information on his movements after his arrival in Paris in 1792. (ii) Correspondence with Victor and Alexandre Amyot, 1794-1807. Alexandre, brother of Victor, was employed by the British Minister at Florence (folio 35); (iii) Correspondence with the Chevalier de Sade at Lisbon, 1797-1804 (folio 119); (iv) Correspondence with General Édouard Dillon, 1797-1806 (folio 158).
