Music book of William Robertson., 1811.
Scope and Contents
This collection, actually set down by 'Mr S', perhaps the 'WS' who is composer or arranger of several tunes, consists almost entirely of Scottish music, much of it of bagpipe origin, and much of it transcribed from Daniel Dow's collections, and, rather freely, from the MacFarlane manuscript, now MSS.2084-2085, but then in the possession of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Six of the tunes attributed to the MacFarlane collections ('Merry Annie', page 34; 'Allan Logan's cant', page 37; 'Donachadh dubh', page 39; 'Skip Tam Walker', page 41; 'We'll get gear enough', page 71; and 'I'll never rue I loved thee', page 75), do not survive there and must have been in the lost volume one.
