Leaves containing fiddle music, a fragment of a much larger work, bound inside a pair of hard covers for Charles Kirkpatrick Sharpe, who has inscribed the inner front cover and written 'Vol: 2nd' on the flyleaf.

The leaves, watermarked 1801, are paginated between 209 and 255 (with omissions, and somewhat out of order).

Many leaves are soiled or torn, and a loose leaf, apparently from another source, containing minuets (folio 24), has been tipped in at the back.

Alexander Smith, known as 'Dancie Smith', was a fiddler from Byth in Aberdeenshire. His collection includes many of the well-known tunes of his day, but an unusually large proportion appears to be of his own composition.
