Custodial History
The volume appears to have had three owners. The first, who wrote the notes in an 18th-century hand in the margins of the text, may have been Patrick McVicar, a writer in Edinburgh: traces of an offset consistent with this name are visible on the title page. The second, who remains unidentified, was probably responsible for adding the interleaves (which are watermarked 1808), on which are written some fairly brief notes in a 19th-century hand. The third was John Riddell, who appears to have had the volume rebound, with new endpapers added, some time after 1837, and who has added further notes some of the interleaves, pasted in a press-cutting at folio 78 and tipped in a letter at folio 79.
