Biography

Margaret Hunter (1922-1986) was an early member of the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) and from her time as a factory convenor at Barr and Stroud in Glasgow during World War II, she went on to become secretary of the CPGB’s Knightswood branch and subsequently acheived a place on the Communist Party Scottish Committee. She married Jimmy Hunter in 1946. She also served as the Communist Party’s Scottish organiser, and was appointed in 1963 as the National Women’s Organiser, which led the couple to London. She was the author of a number of key party policy papers and would stand unsuccessfully for election herself in 1964.
