There are four different drafts of ‘Glacial Periods’, only one of which corresponds with the printed version (folios 76-166). The text relates largely to geological observations Campbell made ‘after spending nearly six months in India and some weeks in Lombardy’. There is a letter to Campbell from William S Dallas, the geologist, 1877, concerning the publication of ‘Glacial Periods’ (folio 132).
