Nine letters and notes of Sean Rafferty to Betty Cummings, with one manuscript and six typescript poems.
The letters and notes are mainly short, and concern some of Rafferty`s manuscripts, which Betty Cummings may have been typing for him; there is also some domestic detail in the longer letters. The poems are a manuscript of `Case history`, and typescripts of `Exposition`, `Biography`, `Soliloquy`, `Finale` and an untitled poem beginning `Dryden and Donne ...`. The vendor also supplied copies of some photographs of Betty Cummings and her circle, some of whom are mentioned in the letters.

The poems are arranged in four parts: 'Miscellanea Poems on several subjects' (folio 2), 'Morality' (folio 73), ‘Against love and women' (folio 124), 'For love and women' (folio 181). Only a few poems, all in English, have been collected. The signature of David Fletcher, Lord Milton's brother, is on folios 1 and 2.
Notebook containing a record of the campaigns of the 1st Battalion, Scots Fusilier Guards in the Crimea.
The contents are compiled from official and other documents, and consist of: rolls of service of the officers, non-commissioned officers, and men who went to the Crimea; rolls of promotions, honours, and awards;
detailed returns of the state and strength of the battalion, including medical reports; a journal of the campaigns and battles in which the battalion took part.
The notebook is illustrated with occasional sketches, ink and watercolour, and with two military poems.

The notebook contains: 'The heads of a sermon called Right Reformation preached by Mr. Dell at a fast befor the Parl of England at Westminster, 1650' (folio 1), and summaries of sermons of Mungo Law (folios 5 verso, 12), Andrew Steuart, perhaps Stewart, Minister of Penninghame (folio 8), and Robert Traill (folio 9). The book also contains a medical recipe and one for making ink (folio 1), and lines of verse beginning, 'Love not the world, the world is vaine' (folio 1 verso).
