Wet-press letter books., 1892-1930.
The wet-press letter books mark a change in the way that the publisher recorded out-going correspondence. Instead of recording manually each, or the key parts of each, letter copies were captured through pressing the original letter against a piece of unsized paper. The resulting mirror images of the originals were bound chronologically in volumes.
There are three series of wet-press letter books : P, B and L.
Wet-press letter books, series B., 1895-1917.
Series B contains copies of outgoing letters of John Murray, publishers, to the booktrade.
Wet-press letter books, series L., 24 January 1900-24 February 1928.
Series L contains copies of outgoing letters written on behalf of John Murray by Charles Edward Lawrence.
