The subject matter is essentially similar to other manuscript versions, e.g. MSS.3533 and 3534, and to the printed text, ‘Lectures on the Elements of Chemistry’ but the arrangement of the material is different.

A printed volume based on a lecture delivered before the Rosebery Burns Club, Glasgow, 10 March 1903, by James Walsh.

The Volume is dedicated to Mr McGill, who was a `personal friend` Walsh.

A handwritten grace, `Oh thou who blest the loaves and fishes` is inscribed on the last page of the volume. It is attributed to Robert Burns, but appears to be a reworking of an earlier version by Jonathan Swift.
