Sketchbook and rough journal of John Francis Campbell combined for 1868 and early 1869., 1868-1869.
The first part of the volume deals with a visit Campbell made to Norway from July to September 1868 (folios 14-145) and travels in Scotland and England made from October to December of the same year.
There is also a section on the Kildonan goldrush of 1869 with press cuttings and related correspondence, and at the end of the volume are several pages of notes concerning coal-mining and the Coal Commission.

This volume begins on 13 September, describing the last stage of the journey, his visit to Paisley in particular. The remainder of the volume contains as an Appendix, a `General Description of the Island of Arran` (folio 45), covering all aspects of Island life.
Two journal-letters, of Robert Michael Ballantyne from the Bell Rock Lighthouse.
Includes two watercolour paintings of the lighthouse, one showing the building from the reef, the other being an interior view; with two other letters of Ballantyne concerning lifeboats, and many later letters of R M Ballantyne, his family and friends.
