There are occasional corrections and deletions to the manuscript by Cavalié Mercer’s son, also Cavalié Mercer, who edited the work for publication.

Illustrating the text of the manuscript are twenty-two full-page and other smaller drawings, apparently by the author. These illustrations and drawings are not found in the printed edition.
