The title is taken from folio ii.The manuscript contains many Scottish and some other dance tunes arranged in simple treble notation, followed by an index (page 181).The tunes , which are taken from ‘Caledonian pocket companion’ by James Oswald ([circa 1745-1760]), ‘[First] collection of strathspey reels’ by Niel Gow (1784), and several other printed sources, are numbered in pencil in another hand as far as page 47, and other markings are added in pencil elsewhere....
