Family papers, chiefly of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, of the Robertsons (a branch of the Robertsons of Strowan), the Macdonalds of Kinlochmoidart, and, on the marriage in 1799 of Margaretta Macdonald of Kinlochmoidart with Lieutenant-Colonel David Robertson, son of Principal Robertson, the Robertson-Macdonalds of Kinlochmoidart.

Scope and Contents Among the papers of the Robertsons the chief correspondents are Principal William Robertson, the historian, and his son William, a Senator of the College of Justice. The correspondence of the Principal includes letters of scholars, British and foreign (Voltaire among others), about his works, information on the American Indians, 1774-1777, and threats regarding his attitude to Roman Catholics, 1778-1779. Scope and Contents Diary of Alexander Meiklejohn, Royal Engineers, serving with the ANZAC signals at Gallipoli during the First World War. The diary covers the period March-November 1915, and begins when Meiklejohn arrives in Egypt, where he witnesses the Battle of the Wazzir, a riot involving large numbers of ANZAC troops in Cairo, on 2 April 1915. The notes include (folio 19) the copy of a diary of a journey from Calicut through the Wynaad, apparently in continuation of MS.13626: Various drafts of 'Journal from Ceylon to Madras and from thence through the Carnatic and Travancore to Calicut, 1796'.

The contents are as follows. (i) Fragments of diaries, 1960-1974, undated (folio 1); (ii) Letter to Ruth Ziegler, 1976-1977 (folio 9). Ruthven Todd began this as a letter, but it developed into a long document, partly a detailed record of his daily activities for two months, and partly rambling reminiscences. Folios 44-48 and 57-60 are photocopies.
