Much of the correspondence is from the estate factors to the fifth and sixth baronets on topics related to the general running of the Menzies estate, such as boundary disputes, leasing farms, etc.

General correspondence of the Paul family., 1788-1928.

Scope and Contents

The main figures in the correspondence are those of Robert Paul, the banker, and his grandson and namesake, Robert Paul, the minister. The elder Robert's correspondence contains letters from prominent Free Churchmen, including Hugh Miller, the geologist. The younger Robert's letters reflect his antiquarian interests which centred round his family connections with the Erskines of Alva.
