The first part of the volume deals with a visit Campbell made to Norway from July to September 1868 (folios 14-145) and travels in Scotland and England made from October to December of the same year.
There is also a section on the Kildonan goldrush of 1869 with press cuttings and related correspondence, and at the end of the volume are several pages of notes concerning coal-mining and the Coal Commission.
