Biographical / Historical
The Scottish Council for Civil Liberties was founded in 1970. It continued until 1998 when the name of the organisation changed to the Scottish Human Rights Centre, a group that was in existence until 2006. The Scottish Council for Civil Liberties and the Scottish Human Rights Centre were independent nongovernment organisations which aimed to promote human rights in Scotland by providing advice, information, education, training and consultancy, research, scrutiny of legislation and monitoring the implementation of international human rights obligations.
