An inscription in red ink on the back (?late 18th-century) reads: "This Paper has been preserved in the Family of Bacon, descendants of Sir Nicholas Bacon, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal in the reign of Q. Elizabeth."
The document was bought at the sale of the library of William Foyle at Christie's auction house, 11 July 2000, where it was part of lot 432. The remainder of this lot is in the Rare Books collections, pressmark RB.s.2081(1-2).
