Financial and estate papers, mostly 19th-century, of the Campbell-Orde family of Kilmory (Lochgilphead) and North Uist.
Content Description
Financial and estate papers of the Campbell Orde family. The collection constitutes what seems to be a final tranche of family papers; further papers are held in the National Records of Scotland (GD1/20; GD291; GD403).
The papers comprise general financial papers and correspondence, papers and correspondence concerning the estate on North Uist, and papers and correspondence on the Kilmory estate and other family properties. The North Uist papers include material concerning the crofting act and the kelp industry, and a file of letters of Hector Hugh Mackenzie, factor on North Uist.
There are also some legal documents dating mostly from the 19th century, and some family history papers and military papers.
