Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows:
(i) Music by Emma Gruber herself, including 'Albumblatt', for piano, 1902; 'Märchen' for voice and piano, 1908, sketch only; the song 'Kicsi Viragom', undated, for voice and piano; drafts of several movements for string quartet, chiefly in score, though including a version of one movement for piano duet; and other unidentified scraps (folio 1);
(ii) Pieces by Zoltán Kodály: Valsette for piano Op. 3, 1910; and a short piece for the collection of little pieces ('Kis Darabya') by composers in her circle that Emma Gruber seems to have been compiling, 1909 (folio 47);
(iii) Music by Béla Bartók: Draft of the opening of 'The wooden prince', 1914; revised proofs of his 'Four dirges', 1910, and 'Three burlesques', 1911; and versions, in the hand of Emma Gruber, and dated 14 April 1908, of the first two of his 'Fourteen bagatelles' (folio 50);
(iv) 'Geburtsmarsch' for piano by Alexander Jemnitz, 1909, dedicated to Miki Sandor (folio 83);
(v) 'Bridge egy féher leányszobában' for piano, possibly by Antál Molnar, 1921, drafts and fair copy (folio 86);
(vi) Anonymous pieces: song 'Die jungen Liebenden', for voice and piano; and sketches of an 'Entrescene' (folio 96).
