Microfilm of the original manuscript, from the Scots College in Paris, of the memoirs of the Chevalier de Johnstone.
Scope and Contents
The memoirs consist of: volume i, "Mémoires de la Guerre d’Escosse en 1745”; volume ii, narrative of Chevalier Johnstone's adventures from 1746 to 1760; volume iii, "Guerre de l’lsle Royal et Siège de Louisbourg en 1758; La Guerre de Canada. Campagne de 1759” (containing "Dialogue des Morts entre M. le Marquis de Montcalm . . . et M. Wolf", “Suite de la Campagne de 1759”, and “Campagne de 1760. Jusques à la capitulation générale . . . faite le 7 Sepre. 1760".
The volume bears the signature of Hugh Fraser Leslie of Powis, a letter of Longman, Rees, & Company, 1826, regarding its authenticity and history, and a note of Surgeon-General Campbell Maclean stating that it was presented to him by Powis.

Custodial History
The original was placed on deposit in the Library in 1934 by Brigadier-General A D Macpherson of Elsick, grandson of Surgeon-General Maclean. A copy was made in 1954 and the original was then transferred to the Clan Macpherson Museum Trust, Newtonmore.
