This manuscript has been formed from various accessions:
The transcripts of letters to Father Joseph Dunn (folios 67, 73) presented, 1934, by Major-General Sir Walter Maxwell Scott, Baronet, C.B., D.S.O.; the envelope (folio 58) and letter (folio 96) addressed to the Lord Advocate presented, 1934, by Lovell N Reddie, Esquire, London. The rest bought from 1933 to 1935, singly and in two larger collections, inventories of which are bound at the end of the volume.
The letters were bought by the National Library of Scotland with the aid of the Reid Fund.
