Arrangement
Donald Alexander Mackenzie's poems, written mainly in his early years, were inspired by the scenes and folklore of the Scottish Highlands. Although this was his only volume of poems published during his lifetime, his work appeared in anthologies and in the press, and another collection was published in 1937. 'Songs of the Highlands and the Islands' includes seven of the sixteen manuscript poems in this volume as well as many of the published poems and in certain cases incorporates Mackenzie's alterations.
