Letters relating to the captivity of Queen Mary, addressed to Richard Bagot of Blithfield as a Justice of the Peace for Staffordshire.
Scope and Contents
Most of the letters are written by Sir Amias Poulet; other writers are Sir Ralph Sadler, the Earl of Essex, and Mar Darell (perhaps Sir Marmaduke, afterwards Cofferer of the Household). They treat of the housing and guarding of the Queen at Tutbury, Chartley, Tixall, and Fotheringay and her removal from one to the other, of her trial and execution, of the doings of the Curles and others of her suite after her death, and of arrangements for her burial. On folio 20 verso are four lines of verse in a contemporary hand, beginning, 'O Maria Scota, meretrix es omnibus nota'.
