Scope and Contents
The Montrose Loyal Volunteers were disbanded in May 1802. The 2nd Forfarshire or Montrose Volunteers were formed in August 1803, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Gardiner (formerly commanding officer of the Royal Montrose Volunteers). Both volumes contain orders concerning drill, promotions, guard duties in Montrose, etc.; MS.10689 also mentions guard duties at Lunan Bay in case of attempted invasion.
