Scope and Contents
Letter, dated 7 Feb. 1877, offering poetic translations of John MacIntyre, minister of Kilmonivaig, to the editor of `An Gaidheal`. With three proof copies, one with the letter of MacIntyre`s son on the same sheet, of Gaelic verse translations, all with manuscript annotations mostly in John MacIntyre`s hand:
`King Robert Bruce`s address to his army before the Battle of Bannockburn`, a translation of Robert Burns`s poem `Scots wha hae`, beg. `Albannacha! a dhòirt `ur fuil`, signed `Abrach`;
`A lyric of Robert Burns in Celtic garb`, beg. `A gorm-thrusgan àillidh chuir Nàdur a suas`, published `An Gaidheal` 6 (1877), p. 44, with the title ` `S gun m` fheudail rium dluth`;
`Wae`s me for Prince Charlie: Mo chreach, `s mo leir! Prionns` Tearlach!`, beg. `Gu `r dorus thàinig eòinean beag`.
A collection of verse translations was published posthumously in John MacIntyre, `Translations into Gaelic verse of some Jacobite and Scottish songs and original Gaelic songs`, Oban 1916.
