Scrap-book containing correspondence of and related printed items concerning William Sulzer, counselor at law and sometime Governor of New York.
Scope and Contents
The correspondence, which consists mostly of incoming letters dated 1920-1922, together with a few dated 1916-1917, relates to the aftermath of his political career, which was virtually terminated by his impeachment and removal from office as Governor of New York in October 1913, after less than a year in office; to his investments (mostly in mining shares), and to matters of personal interest.
The printed items, which consist of contemporary press-cuttings and small pamphlets, relate to his political career and to aspects of American internal politics in the years before and after his impeachment.
Almost all of the letters, and even a few of the printed items, have been trimmed before being pasted into the album, some of them so severely as to be quite mutilated. The purpose is not clear, for not even small sheets have been spared.
