Scope and Contents
Item is a copy of a litograph showing statistics of the Cosmopolitan Gold Mine in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. Charles John Mackintosh was shareholder manager of the the mine around 1864. He went from Glasgow to Australia as part of the great wave of gold rush migration in the 1850s and 1860s. Mackintosh returned to Scotland in 1865. He invested his fortune in the City of Glasgow Bank, which went bust in 1878. The family history notes provide background information about the Mackintosh family and Charles` emigration to Australia.
