Scope and Contents
The contents of the manuscript are as follows:
(i) `Sketch of the character of John, Earl of Hopetoun`, 1781. The correct order of folios should be 1, 3 verso, 4, 2 (folio 1).
(ii) List of contributions by Buchan to ‘The Bee’, 1791-1793 (folio 3).
(iii) Biographical sketches of James Anderson, economist and editor of ‘The Bee’, 1790 (folio 8).
(iv) Biography of Walter Minto, the mathematician, 1801. This was intended for the ‘Edinburgh Magazine’, but was apparently not published (folio 10).

The manuscript was formerly in the library of Sir Thomas Phillipps. It was bought by the Advocates’ Library at Sotheby`s, 20 May, 1897, lot 667.
