Manuscript of ‘Regiam Maiestatem ...’ by Sir John Skene, corresponding almost exactly to the published work, but without the indices.
Scope and Contents
Like the earlier draft of this work, Adv.MS.7.1.10, the manuscript is in the hand of Charles Lumsden, minister of Duddingston, although it is not signed by him. It contains title-page (folio 1), dedication (folio 3), to the reader (folio 6), laws of Malcolm Mackenneth (folio 10), ‘Regiam Maiestatem’ books i (folio 17), ii (folio 39), iii (folio 81), and iv (folio 100), ‘Quoniam attachiamenta’ (folio 110), burgh laws (folio 135), guild laws (folio 157), Chamberlain ayre (folio 164), Justice ayre (folio 174), acts of William (folio 176), forest laws (folio 186), and acts of Alexander II (folio 191), Robert I (folios 199 and 208), David II (folio 220), Robert II (folio 232) and Robert III (folio 236).
Skene himself has added folios 174 verso-175, 234-235, and 245, as well as a few of the marginal notes.
The name Robert Somervell is written twice on folio 156 verso.

Arrangement
The original foliation stops at 6, but Lumsden has signed each gathering (A⁶, B⁴, C-SS⁶, TT⁴). There are blank leaves between most of the sections.
Custodial History
The manuscript was presented to the Advocates’ Library in 1683 by Thomas Skene, advocate. Former pressmark: A.2.20.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Presented, 1925, by the Faculty of Advocates to the nation on the foundation of the National Library of Scotland.
