Notes, mainly on geometry, by James Moor, Professor of Greek at Glasgow University.
Scope and Contents
Moor`s interest in mathematics predated his classical studies and lasted throughout his life. The present volume contains geometrical theorems and calculations, some avowedly copied from elsewhere, many apparently original.
The non-mathematical contents (apart from several invitations to funerals, written over by Moor) are: notes on manuscripts of the Greek mathematical writers (excerpted from ‘Bibliotheca bibliothecarum manuscriptorum nova’ by B de Montfaucon) (folios 1-6); a copy of ‘Comus’ by John Milton, verses 331-469 (folios 7-11); draft of the preface to the Foulis edition of ‘The Odyssey’ (folio 44 verso); a comparison of French and English weights (folio 49); a list of the Greek class at Glasgow, circa 1757 (folio 98); and notes on Greek verbs by John Tilloch, 1765 (folios 114-115).
