The note of Sir William Fraser reads: `Page holograph of Sir Walter Scott. Purchased by me from a poor old man in the old town of Edinburgh to whom it served in the place of a broken pane of glass in the window of his house about the year 1850 ...` The manuscript was presented to the Advocates’ Library in 1908 by the Trustees of Sir William Fraser.
